Johnny Park - Parachute Hill - Pierson Park - Pole Hill - 2007-11-03

Pretty much a repeat of last weekend, expect for these things:

Yet another great ride, especially since I thought that we were done with mountain trail riding a couple of weeks ago.  Steve, Dana and I met under clear skies at the Johnny Park trailhead. What a popular place for offroaders this weekend (last weekend we shared the trailhead with a couple of elk hunting parties). This weekend there were a variety of folks:

Once getting underway we quickly passed the folks ahead of us an and we traversed the Johnny Park road quick and without incident. Last weekend there was little or no snow, but there's a little accumulation.

Decided to give Parachute Hill a shot since its on the ATV map provided by the Forest Service. Nothing special, but at the turnaround there's a nice view of Big Elk Park.

On Pierson Park road, we took a wrong turn, but my new Garmin eTrex Vista HCx indicated that we got off route.  The icy hill had accumulated more snow. Steve and I decided to walk our bikes down the slope but Dana rode it; I was just waiting for ice to rob her of her traction, but bravo, she made it down upright!

We stopped for a breather shortly thereafter and then we were passed by the testosterone-charged MX'ers, only the old guy on the XR600 seemed to have a problem with the preceding icy slope - apparently he had broken his bark busters.

Stopped for lunch at the high point as before and it was a bit windy.

Headed over to Pole Hill and did a bunch of loops -- in one direction and then the other. The jumps were cool, each time a bit more speed offered up a bit more air.

Upon exiting Pole Hill, we encountered a fellow and  his children training young homing pigeons. We were about five miles from their roost and he let us release a few of them.

Topped it all off with Cajun food, the blues and ale at Oskar Blues in Lyons, CO.
