After purchasing my new 2007 KLX250S at the end of January and adding mod after mod over the next several months, I decided that it was time to get my feet wet with some off road riding.

I had taken my Jeep on OFR several times in the past and knew that I could handle this easy 4x4 road.  Being mid-May, the Forest Service had just opened the road after the melt off - it was still quite wet.

After passing through the private land, I entered the National Forest and things begun to get fun. I was thinking to myself "This is a blast and I'm loving it!".

Then I came upon a pickup truck stuck badly in the mud. To avoid that mess, I skirted the left hand side of a mud puddle. The mud quickly swallowed my bike. Oh shit!  I tried to power it out of the mud hole and it just dug in deeper.  The rear wheel was completely buried.

Over next hour or so, I extracted the bike by laying it on one side and then the other while digging out the mud with my bare hands. I was finally able to work it to the surface.

Once I got it out of the hole, a turkey hunter happened by in his truck and offered to lend a hand. We found that the bike would start, but it would not go forward once in gear.  The rear wheel was also locked up and we skidded it along and got it in the back of his truck and he gave me a ride back to town. Lucky, lucky, lucky, ...

Gave the bike and myself a wash and called it a day.

In the next day or two, I started to tear into the bike to find the mechanical problem. I found a piece of granite lodged in the rear chain guide between the chain and sprocket.  This prevented the wheel from turning and ended up burning up the clutch.

Time to get some friends to ride with and better riding gear!
